Economics is the study of choices made by individuals, businesses, and institutions. Areas of study include:
- Microeconomics—study of consumers, firms, and markets
- Macroeconomics and Monetary Theory—business cycle fluctuations, economic growth, monetary and fiscal policy, banking and financial markets
- Economic Systems—comparative analysis of capitalist and socialist economies
- Development—human welfare in developing countries
- Econometrics—statistical methods for estimating economic relationships
- Public Economics—effects of public spending and taxation on the economy
- International Economics—international trade and financial flows
- Industrial Organization—organization of markets and industries, organizational strategy, regulation
- Labor Economics—issues and policies that affect workers’ pay, employment, working time, and working conditions
- Law and Economics—economic analysis of the legal process; effect of laws on economic activities
