Economics

Economics is the study of choices made by individuals, businesses, and institutions. Areas of study include:

  • Microeconomics—study of consumers, firms, and markets
  • Macroeconomics and Monetary Theory—business cycle fluctuations, economic growth, monetary and fiscal policy, banking and financial markets
  • Economic Systems—comparative analysis of capitalist and socialist economies
  • Development—human welfare in developing countries
  • Econometrics—statistical methods for estimating economic relationships
  • Public Economics—effects of public spending and taxation on the economy
  • International Economics—international trade and financial flows
  • Industrial Organization—organization of markets and industries, organizational strategy, regulation
  • Labor Economics—issues and policies that affect workers’ pay, employment, working time, and working conditions
  • Law and Economics—economic analysis of the legal process; effect of laws on economic activities
