Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science
Interdisciplinary Studies integrates courses from departments and professional schools across campus to build in-depth, cohesive, thematic programs of study (concentrations), which are grounded in the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. The interdisciplinary major may also be combined with a teacher certification program. Effective Fall 2010, areas of study include:
- Community Governance and Advocacy—issues and problems related to community organizations, political or social advocacy, governance, private-public sector partnerships, philanthropy, and other local, state or regional matters
- Health and Society—science, technology, psychology, medicine, law ethics, and preparation for medical school and other public or allied health care fields
- Human Capital and Society—human resources in business, industry, and government
- International Studies—regional and area studies of various international/global phenomena
- Liberal Studies—students, working with an IDS advisor and at least two faculty, establish a set of learning outcomes that the student intends to accomplish, then tailors his/her courses to achieve those goals
- Social Science Education—for students interested in a career in teaching at the secondary level
