History and Geography faculty honored with Teacher-Scholar Awards

Daina Ramey Berry and Antoinette WinklerPrins were among six MSU faculty recognized with Teacher-Scholar Awards for their devotion to and skill in teaching and scholarly promise. The awards ceremony was held during the Founders’ Day Celebration Feb. 11.

Daina Ramey Berry is an assistant professor of history. She brings style, rigor, and uncommon energy to classes that range from an innovative, team-taught course about the history of African American music through a series of lecture courses on the history of slavery to graduate research seminars. An honors student calls Berry “easily one of the best professors I have had at Michigan State.”

Antoinette WinkerPrins is an assistant professor of geography. Her engaging teaching style and global vision open up the world for her students in all its complexity and interdependence. Whether at the introductory or graduate level, she challenges students to think critically, using the power of geographic thinking to organize and evaluate complex global, social, economic, and cultural issues.
